Thamks Mike, It Seems like I have to small of a window( two many tool bars) sumet Button was hidden.
I am just now developing a new Ning site. www.louisianatechaviationforum.ning.com

It's social networking group of pilots and management graduates who attended Louisiana Tech. We're interested in branching out from our Yahoo group to something more modern but we have a probelm. Many members in the group respond to the forum via email and wish to continue to do so.

Is there a way to write code that could enable Ning to email the new reply without just receiving a link to retrieve it? We'd like the capacity to do this for each category or all categories combined. We're afraid of losing the sense of "Community" that we have and many, myself included, prefer not to go to the site but to email directly. I know that doesn't fit in well with the advertisers on the right margin but that is what my people want.

1. Is there anything I can do?

2. How can I do it?

3. Should I just bite the bullet and pay for a commercial site if I'm unable to get that capacity here?

4. If unavailable through Ning, are there any networks that do this besides yahoo groups?

5. I'll take any critique or gouge you have for me.

If I have asked an operator question in a developer discussion improperly, I apologize and will ask for a mulligan.

All my best,

JD
Hi JD,

You can certainly make a change to have the messages sent out with the email notifications; it would involve making updates to the messaging functions located in /lib/XG_Message so that the actual message is appended to the body of the email. People won't have the capacity to email in a response though.

Thanks,
Phil
Thanks Phil, that is the information I needed.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of my forum use email to respond rather than logging onto the site.

I think we're going to have to tank the Ning idea.....bummer.

I really liked the vast majority of the thread following and overall appearance.

Any suggestions on who I might use that would have the capability for email in both directions?

JD
Hi James,

Unfortunately I haven't had a lot of recent experience with email list servers so I can't recommend any specific service; many hosting companies offer listserv support though as part of their packages, so that might be an angle to explore.

Thanks,
Phil
