Hi Nada,

In order to run your network on an external server you would need to replicate all of the functionality provided by the Ning platform (account management, messaging, video transcoding, data storage, image manipulation etc) and recreate hooks for all of the native Ning PHP classes and APIs that the social network uses. It's certainly possible, but it would be much more work than building a social network from scratch.

Can we add an external forum in the new tab that we have created?

Okay, I accessed and changed the widget-configuration.xml file to add a new directory and renamed it classifieds but nothing changed on the tabs. Am I missing something? I'm trying to find out how seenonthehill.com is adding two extra tabs. One is Reviews and One is Classifieds they seem to be linking to a new forum directory. My url is http://nwabuzz.com

Hello Phil,

I am trying to add a new tab on my site. I previously followed your suggestions to create a new tab by creating a new directory called 'page' first, followed by a new tab called FAQs which was successful. However, when I tried to create a new directory called 'About Us' it did not work showing a message that says there is an error or elegal siuation when I refresh the website?

Is there something I'm doing wrong in the configuration of the widget-configuration.xml ?

Hi Sam,

It sounds like they created a second instance of the forum widget in a new directory. You can change the value that appears on the tab by changing the value for the name field in the configuration file.

You cannot create the instance in a directory that has dashes or spaces, or non-ascii characters; it sounds like that may be the problem.

So should I copy the code for the forum? and then place that into the directory that I created? or delete the directory that I created that doesn't seem to be working? and start over

Hi Sam,

If you want a second forum, then delete the widget-configuration.xml file in the new directory that you created inside of instances, and replace it with a modified copy of the widget-configuration.xml file in the forum directory. Full instructions are here.

You should be able to do that in the language editor: Manage -> Language Editor

I am a little bit confused (as a newbie).
I have added Pages tab and i want to add other tabs (games).
I created a new directory (games), created a file widget-configuration.xml.
What i have to change in this file except Title?
widget id = whatever i want?
root= ? (page or games?)
name = ? (page or games?)
dispaly name = ? (page or games?)

Anything else?
