Hi there!
In our Feb. 26 release, your social network's Chat was overhauled and redesigned, with a new chat bar, pop-out capability, audible notifications and more. While you cannot revert your network's chat to the old style, we're very interested in hearing any feedback you have the new chat, so we can continue to improve it.
If you have any other questions, please let us know! You can also find a lot of great information in the new Introduction to Chat FAQ below:
They reverted mine back to old but I later noticed that sence Ning switched there chat server with the new design it make's the chat slow in old version so I then switched back.
On my site, no one likes the new chat. It's not only so tiny, that no one see it at the bottom but people get stuck in there and can't get out and the chat window stays on top of all the pages they go to on the site. This has happen at least twice. Once I had to drop the person (ban them) so they could come back and start over. The other one is still stuck. Also you can't hear the bell or chime when someone is trying to contact someone for a private chat or hear them when they are chatting. Also people enter into the chat room without knowing it, and it's too complicated to explain how or why they are in the chat room when they never entered and how to turn it off. I hate the chat site and it sorta ruins the entire experience for the entire network, as that is one way for people to get to know each other. I am also experiencing other problems with other things and their is no way to get help.
I can only surmise that this is an effort on Ning's part to "streamline" and get lean. Without much attention paid to design.
What I'd suggest is that at a minimum they bring to the main page - a static reference as to "who's online". With now no new members showing up in the latest activity feed - the main pages are devoid of people and action for the most part - and this is what SN is all about!
So Ning, please make some way for us network creators to create community! Create awareness as to who's online and out and about on the main street!
This is what they wrote me after I filed 3 or 4 tickets of complaints with the HELP CENTER and no reply to my disappointment with the NEW CHAT, which makes me post one on their Blog....

Hi there!
I saw you commented again on the Ning blog. The blog isn't a great place to point out bugs or feature requests. If you have any future bugs, feature requests or improvements to suggest, please respond to this ticket or drop us a new message in the Help Center, at help.ning.com.
We have an outstanding feature request for the ability to see what's going on in Chat without being signed in or online in the Chat feature. I've added your vote to the request. And as we mentioned in our previous email, the old Chat is no longer available. However, we'll continue making rapid improvements to the new Chat feature per everyone's feedback.
Thanks!
Evan
THIS IS WHAT I WROTE THEM IF YOU WANT TO KNOW

Sorry for not explaining my previous posting, We are ONLY 2 weeks with NING and I decided to upgrade my network to PREMIUM because of the old versions of Chat, Music Player and Latest Activity:
CHAT :: The old CHAT was our DRIVING FORCE behind my Members Registration. Have been skyrocketed in the last few days… today there were only about 4 new members! The WHOLE DAY….. ooh my gosh! this is killing me!
- You can chat from the front page but I also put it that static box where they can also chat from anywhere in the site.
- Also it brings you the feeling of not alone, as you can see that there are people chatting even though you are not.
- And the fact that you can still see Who is chatting and what they chatting about while your status is set to “OFFLINE”.
MUSIC PLAYER :: The old one is better looking and with the new one there is no “Feature” or “Add to my Page” link. Plus the “Shuffle” feature is not working.
LATEST ACTIVITY :: I still like the old one where a thumbnails are displayed instead of the icons. Also, like the comment by guillePagano it is “unpersonal and boring”.
SUGGESTIONS :: I wish that NING gives us an option if we want to install the new feature or use the old one, like many other Network platforms.
However, if there is any possibility of restoring our site back to the old versions… please please please do so…
Hey Dustin,
I would love to know how they REVERTED your's... wow! Well, I asked them so many times but they said it's gone... see their reply below... Will appreciate your help..
I hate this chat so much. My community site community.watchtheguild.com is dead now. We used to have SO MANY people in chat, and the way it works is impossible to find, it's terrible terrible terrible. It's killing my site and I'm doing everything in my power to resist twittering to my Twitter account about how horrible it is.
PLEASE FIX IT! Please let me have it embedded on my home page again! Please make this new chat go die in a fire.
TY
Felicia Day
This new chat has pretty much killed the activity on my site... I've had members tell me that they've stopped coming around because the chat is what kept em coming back.
It's really sad... we had a good thing going and it was taken away with no real option to get back what worked so well.
