Ning Developer Docs

Dear all

I really like Ning, but it currently runs in support of my main site. My site is www.khaosanroad.com and my social network is www.khaosanroad.ning.com.

I would like to try to integrate the two in some fashion. I am sure you are familiar with the new Google Friendconnect feature. With Friendconnect, you simply add a line of
code to your site and functionalities such as seeing pictures of your network members are included in on your site. As I said, I really like Ning, but Friendconnect allows my site to have web 2.0 functionality.

Is there any way that functionalities similar to that provided by Friendconnect would be available to my site (which uses static HTML pages). My main thing is to be able to show pictures of the Ning network members.

Is this in any way possible?

Hello John,

While we currently don't support Google Friendconnect, there should be different ways to integrate parts of your network to your site. Could you use one of the many Network Badges available?

Thanks,
- Ernie
Do these badges show network members? Can't remember seeing any like that...
Hi John,

Yes, the large network badge at the page: /main/embeddable/list should have a badge which contains member to your social network.

You can also take advantage of our RSS feeds and integrate the feeds directly into your external website.

Thanks,
- Ernie
You have been very kind, but can you point out the URL because I didn't see that. Also, is there a tutorial anywhere on how to use the RSS because I am not familiar with it. Sorry to be a pain :)
Actually, found the badge, but would be good to know about RSS...
Hi John,

The RSS feed is available by the RSS icon. For the case of your network, this is an example of your latest activity feed: http://khaosanroad.ning.com/activity/log/list?fmt=rss

As far what you want to do with the RSS, it's up to you and what you want to do with it. There are many RSS widgets that you can embed on your website. If you are a PHP coder you can also integrate your RSS feed with something like Magpie:
http://magpierss.sourceforge.net/

Thanks,
- Ernie
That's good, thanks... Is there a widgit or RSS feed that will allow people to sign up for the network from my site?
Sorry for all these questions but you are really helping me : )

I am thinking of transitioning to Joomla. Is there a specific Ning integration module for Joomla?
