In that same xg_masthead you need to remove the border property.
Then for the removal of the name, are you going to use a graphic?
If so you can add it MANAGE>APPEARANCE>ALL OPTIONS and then you will see NETWORK LOGO.
You can do this too: #xg_head display:none; but use the right brackets and such.
Do you use Firefox? If so do you use the Web Developer plugin? or Codeburner? There are some great tools that u can view the CSS and in MANAGE>APPEARANCE>ADVANCED OPTION you can change the CSS to everything of the site.

The background of my site is just some gradients and some of my photoshop styles. Do you have photoshop? I can point you to some styles to get to add that are useful.
I am actually working on redesigning my site. I just did that quickly. I spent more time working on the GROUP avatar things than i did on the site graphics.
