I think I just need a little help and I'll be on my way, but I am stuck, could you offer any suggestions/help on why this is not working and what needs to be done?…
content owner
var viewer = x$("#xg_module_account").find("strong").html(); // Gets viewer of page
var profile = x$(".profile").find("span.fn").html(); // Gets Profile page owner
Owner doesn't get set on Profile pages, but I get the name of who's profile page it is and put it in "profile", then I do
if ((owner == null) && (profile != null)) owner = profile;
so I have owner set to the page's owner even if its a profile page.
Then just call the getJSON:
x$.getJSON("http://www.SERVER.com/XXX.aspx?owner=" + owner + "&viewer=" + viewer + "&jsoncallback=?", function(data)
{
CODE;
}
);
Have your aspx code spit out the data this way:
Protected Overrides Sub Render(ByVal writer As HtmlTextWriter)
Response.ContentType = "text/javascript"
Dim jsoncallback As String = Request.QueryString("jsoncallback")
writer.Write(jsoncallback & "({""DATA"": " & GetDATA() & "})")
End Sub
Hope this helps!…
by members) and I got opposite. Guest could see it and me would be redirected to the main page ( not to the sign up page as I wanted ).
I am trying for hours to forbid non members to see certain pages but can't do it. I just need them to be redirected to the sign up page.
HINT: I tried to add a code directly to the page, not to analytics as I don't know how to assign a code for specific page only
Yes. Amy asked for code so people NOT signed in would see a message. If you want members only to see it, use != instead of ==
As for jQuery code that runs only on certain pages, see my tutorial on that at TheNingMaster if you're a member:

modified and adapted by me for Orkut, Ning and hi5 containers. It
demonstrates also some noticed differences between these containers:
- Ning is not supporting links to profiles, isOwner function and most
of arguments, but introduces argument 'origin' and getPicture
function.
Also friends arrays are implemented differently and uses viewer.name
== "Anonymous" for non registered viewers.
- hi5 is not supporting isOwner and isViewer functions.
For demo, see my OS gadget http://www.dealoffun.com/opensocial/welcome10.xml
,which also uses jquery and jcarousel libraries. It tested working
with Firefox at Orkut and Hi5 and with IE and Firefox at Ning. My
suggestion is to create similar official library and to eliminate
differences between containers, so that developers can use it without
adapting their code to specific OS implementations.

st submission so that the user can "preview" the changes the code made to their text. I have been looking around on the forums, and generally there seem to be three ways to do this:
1. Use jQuery to bind an event on the needed buttons (probably by using $(document).ready). This, according to some posts, is messy and can conflict with the dogo library ning uses for click events.
2. Use the dojo library to add an event to the needed button. This may result in fewer conflicts.
3. Manual hack by using analytics code and altering the DOM of the page directly. Highly likely to break whenever ning changes something.
My question is, what is the best way to do this (feel free to suggest something better than the above)? Do I want to create a Ning app or just add more code to the analytics section to do this kind of thing? Please suggest documentation/help pages I should read. Thanks!
*EDIT* It's the dojo library, not the dogo library.…
h criteria. I don't believe you can achieve this as speculated in #2. I don't think anyone has access to Ning's database, or content store as they call it, since they cut off access to our ability to edit the underlying PHP source code back in October. I know there is an effort at Ning to replace many of our lost abilities via OpenSocial applications. I am not familiar with all of those capabilites yet because there is some flux in what aspects of the OpenSocial framework that Ning can and will support. I'll look at it once they get it a little better implemented and integrated.
Without the ability to get into the underlying code, developers have to host database applications like this on their own servers and find a way to hook it into the Ning platform. That brings up the issues of Single Sign On, so the user only has to log in once and remember one set of authorization credentials; and user interface to the external DB app from within the Ning Network. There is very little info on Single Sign On here other than one tutorial on WordPress integration. I looked at it briefly, it was in PHP, not my strength, and I'm not sure if we can even implement it anymore since we can't run PHP on Ning anymore.
For User Interface, you could put textboxes on pages and code an iFrame to pages running on your external server. Or, you can hook into UI elements on Ning pages using jQuery to add elements to pages, read/write to the elements, and access your external database with getJSON calls. You might need to do both.
In summary, I believe you'll need the services of someone who can code up a non-trivial database application, and also someone who has a good understanding of the Ning Network and how to modify it to work with external apps. I'm not sure that many developers here have both sets of skills, and that may be why you have not had much response. I'm on my way toward acquiring these skills. I've been writing DB apps for years using Microsoft's ASP.NET framework. I'm new to the Ning world. Like I say on my profile, I'm here to learn and to help. So far, I have a bit of a handle on what can be done on Ning using jQuery.
I know I haven't given much in concrete answers but I hope I gave you a little something to think about. Best wishes!…

OR
Are you referring to the bar at the very top of the page that has Ning on the left and a Search box on the right?
If so, there is an easy way to remove it via jQuery code. However, I think it might be against Ning policy to remove the "Ning bar" at the top of the page. They want you to pay a monthly fee to remove references to Ning:
Remove Ning Promotion Links
This premium service removes the three "Create Your Own Social Network" links on your network: the button at the top of your network, the link in the footer of your network, and the link in the "About this network" box. This service also unlocks the "About this network" box so you can move or remove it from the right column. This will not remove references to Ning or the Ning ID. This premium service costs $24.95 per month.
That is from here: http://help.ning.com/cgi-bin/ning.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_sid=6V4u6Xoj&p_faqid=3397…
lest they override it but the trick I've used is to use JQuery code in the script section (designated for analytics code) to remove the invite details...

ite and make a nice reference or document to present everyone for a nice quick view of the default CSS, sizes of default images and so forth.
Hey do you know by chance how the addition of a logo instead of the networks text can be a link instead of just being non-clickable? No one knows how you make your logo a link back to your home page? Unless you can view and edit your source files, or use some jQuery to append the anchor to your masthead class?
Lee Crystal said:If you use foxfire you can get the firebug addon to veiw the code. even the CSS stuff. However, you can only following it through in html. It does show the CSS code. I found some other related addon for it and now I can't get it to work at all. :(

to do. Good luck!!!
" Thanks @Mike, I think you are correct. If that is the case, they should at least say so up front but that is not really what this forum is for. I wish @Morgan just didn't reply b/c they really didn't add anything. Believe it or not, i was so excited that I even went to their site and called 2 times. NADA, NOTHING!!! It's just being a good forum member. If they didn't set it up themselves, they could have just said that. The way they left it was a bit selfish IMO. Oh well thanks to a great helpful member @jquery, I was able to get a great work around that looks nice. For those of you who need this, I AM WILLING TO SHARE, just go here http://jqueryhelp.ning.com but you need to sign in and then put this in http://jqueryhelp.ning.com/forum/topics/need-a-hack-to-make-get-rid-of?xg_source=activity which will take your right to the page in the forum. You can view what it will look like on our site here http://www.newmediahire.com/page/freelance-projects-2. There is a slight lag on the disappearing right column but it goes away. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!! "…
