Keywords through the "Network Settings" control panel

When I enter keyword phrases into the keywords field (in the manage/network information area) the platform breaks the phrases up into single words. I can't work around with "" or [] either. It kind of defeats the purpose of using keyword phrases. Is there a workaround via the cms area? Or do I just need to request the source code? Thanks!
