Ning Developer Docs

CLOSING the FORUM NOW - quote: The first step in this process .. forum to read-only status. This will happen on Monday (October 4th).

Latest Happy Message from Ning:

"The first step in this process will be switching the current developer.ning.com forum to read-only status. This will happen on Monday (October 4th). Soon after, we'll provide interested developers with a "sneak peek" link to the new community. "

Lets get this right, the FORUM is closing and we all have to resign up

WHY WHY WHY

or are you impossing new management analysis tools, or are you going to charge us now for membership to the FORUM, like we have been asking the facilities for for the past 2 years!

Whats your views on the LATEST happy message from Ning!

the forum is just fine why mess with it? it's frickin perfect. all the work i put into my network and you guys r making way out changes.
Hey guys! As Ning has changed over the years, we've had varying ways through which developers can interact with the platform. This has fragmented the membership on the current developer network (some people joined while using our legacy APIs, some to learn JavaScript hacks, some to create OpenSocial apps and some as curious non-developers).

Since we're launching our all-new APIs in the next few weeks, we decided to create a new network targeted specifically at developers interested in taking advantage of our new APIs and updated OpenSocial support.

A few notes:

- We're in no way modifying the Forum feature on your individual Ning Networks. Our note refers only to the forum here on developer.ning.com.

- The new developer network will be free to join, and we plan to offer discounted subscriptions to qualified developers in need of their own network for API testing.

Thanks!
This really Does SUCK!

seems I have hit the nail on the head, sorry to say when the only tools you have is a HAMMER you have to knock the nails down.

You are clearly saying

1 You are closing the Forum down
2 You are setting up a developers only forum for creators who can program API
3 Exisiting CREATORS will be able to LOOK at the old FORUM, but will not be able to develop further COLABORATIVE IDEAS, unless they are a API developer
3 You are going to charge a SUBSCRIPTION for use of the CREATOR FORUM, sorry API developers Forum

I quote:

and we plan to offer discounted subscriptions to qualified developers in need of their own network for API testing.

So What NEXT!!!! - are you going to come clean on this...

You are have recently from the 20th August made NING a charged for the network, after 2-3 years of being FREE. Now you are charging us for the previlage of running our own forums for our members, who we cant CHARGE!!! BUT NOW you seem to want to CHARGE us again through a new FORUM
Surely what is good for the GOOSE is good for the GANDER...

Now you want your CAKE and EAT it at the same time, by getting us to PAY for the services, Cancelling our FREE FORUM for exchange of ideas, and then you want to only ALLOW API DEVELOPERS and then you want to CHARGE Them for this privialge - but will give discounted subcriptions

Sorry if I have got this wrong - but thats what it reads to me!
then again I am dyslexic, so may be Ive missed out on the finer points of the grammer - but all in all sounds like another REVENUE STREAM for Ning and something else we will have to pay for - what about network TAXES next - based on the number of members within a forum!!!!

WHAT is your NEXT NING SURPRISE!!!!

A CLEAR Explantion is needed to all CREATORS!!!
Hey Clive!

Sorry if I was unclear. Just to clarify:

1) We're closing this particular forum down (for the reasons I outlined above) and opening up another free forum to replace it.

2) Correct, this new developer network will not be targeted at Network Creators. If you're not a developer, we welcome you at http://creators.ning.com (which is also free to join).

3) We switched to a subscription model a few months ago for all networks. This program will actually allow interested developers to get a substantial discount on a network that's used for development purposes.

If you're a Network Creator (and not a developer), you can disregard this announcement as it doesn't apply. Hope that helps. Thanks!
CLEAR AS MUD!

Sorry - but sounds mysteriously like a retraction of your STATEMENT
