Multiple Group categories

Hi, I'd like to be able to create Group categories to store multiple groups in each, if anyone has any ideas on how to do this using appropriate Development techniques (e.g. PHP) or maybe a component/extension, I would *really appreciate* your advice.

Groups are an integral part of your social network so you would need to get the source to your network and make the changes throughout. The main challenge I can see is that there is quite a lack of documentation and you would have to get a good understanding of how groups currently work before embarking on any change. However if you want to get updates (going forward) you will have to b able to merge your code back into what comes through. This could be quite difficult if ning are at the same time enhancing the group functionality as they maybe. For example they may be adding the ability for groups to "own" photos, music and videos as this is a much requested feature. In the end subgroups are on the development wish list so they may do it themselves however I don't think it is a priority so maybe you could work with ning to get subgroups done professionally and pass the code back to them. They may even know a programmer who used to work for them who knows their way around the code who .....etc
