I have a social website that I made with Drupal 6. I think Ning may be easier to manage than Drupal. Is there a way to import the usernames and passwords into Ning without having my users create new accounts?
There is not really much content to transfer over, so there is not a problem with that. My main concern is transferring the user accounts. Any help is greatly appreciated! :)

Hi there,
I had the same problem when I created our NING network. The response from NING was that this is not possible. You'll have to enter them manually one by one or ask your members to register again. If the later, and in order to avoid loosing many non-active members that wouldn't suscribe again to the new network, I'd suggest you create some kind of incentive (raffle or sweepstake) to attract your current members to the new network. We did give away free gift cards for purchases in Amazon... and it worked pretty well I must say.
As I discussed with NING, I totally disagree with their view -I believe it's making life very hard for those with existing networks elsewhere- and I hope they address this issue soon, moreover taking into account social networks are becoming increasingly popular and there's plenty of competition. In fact, I agree with you that an administrator-access-only tool that allowed to import a CSV list with the data of your members would indeed be the perfect solution. Then, and addressing NING's concern about your ownership -in the first place- of those addresses, some kind of deadline for the users to confirm their suscription could be put in place -perhaps one week or so- after which those not confirmed could be automatically erased from the system. That could keep everybody in the clear in regards of the Law.
Maybe if we put pressure on NING that could be addressed soon enough!.
