Sure, people can subscribe to RSS feeds of other users' activity to keep an eye on them, but while RSS is great, it isn't exactly a mainstream technology. A user-friendly personal tracking page where you have an overview of what all your friends are doing would keep people coming back to ning networks so much more, it's one of the things that makes Facebook addictive: you just need to sign in and you get a nice overview of what all your friends are doing.
Just an automated personal rss-subscribe-to-activity overview thing for every member is what we need, but in a user-friendly Facebook way without actually requiring people to subscribe to any sort of feed, just an automatic overview of friends' activity.

actually if Ning starts looking at this my recommendation would be to go with a twitter model. or perhaps introduce twitter support.
