Now that Widget Laboratory is gone is the right sidebar location the only one for ads?

It's great that we can add a 160x600 skyscraper, but I really need to be able to add additional banners to cover the costs of my community.

Are there any places that I can modify the code to handle ads? (footer? within the body of message board or blog posts, or next to comment boxes?)

I notice that this network has multiple ad locations - were they simply hard coded in?

You can still use the javascript analytics hack to place banners on your site, e.g. see geekbuddy.ning.com for an example. (View source & search for newad).
