Help!!!! Redirection issue

Hello,

can someone please help me! I followed the directions perfectly to get rid of the ".ning.com" for my network www.grovetime.ning.com. I used the directions from Easy Domain Redirection and now my network will not load, it says "the page isn't redirecting properly". It says that even when I change it back to the original URL of www.grovetime.ning.com.

any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Adam!

So when I did a dig command your network, these were the results that came up:

It sounds like you haven't assigned a CNAME to your domain name yet. Once the CNAME points the domain name to your Ning social network, it'll work properly. That said, I'm not quite sure why the Domain Redirection page isn't redirecting you to grovetime.ning.com - if you file a ticket to the Help Center, it'll be easier for us to track your issue. Thanks!

Hey Ernie,

Actually, after this issue occured, I contacted my registrar and assigned a CNAME to the domain. I did this yesterday (6/21) at about 8 p.m. (cst). They told me it may take some time for the changes to go into effect. Do you agree with this? Do you think that my network will start to work again whenever the CNAME starts to work?

Ernie,

I have done the Domain redirection tool again. Now, when I save my network url to "grovetime.com" the redirection tool says,"Your changes were saved successfully." So I believe the CNAME changes have kicked in. However, my network will still not come up when I type in "grovetime.com" or "grovetime.ning.com" in the navigation toolbar. I really do not know what to do! Any more help would be great.

Thanks,

Adam

Hey Adam - it usually takes time to have names propagate through the internet, yeah. Right now, you have grovetime.com forwarding to grovetime.ning.com, which is causing it to forward back to grovetime.com. That's causing an infinite loop. Changing it to CNAME should fix it.

Another thing to help in troubleshooting - if you use a third party extension for features, you may want to temporarily disable it, just as a sanity check that it's not presenting a conflict with anything else.

Thanks Ernie.

We will see if it works in the near future.

It is still not working Ernie. Do you have anymore suggestions? You have been a great help so far, I really appreciate that.

Hello Adam!

After some additional investigation it looks like a couple issues may be responsible for this odd behavior. We'll be contacting you shortly via email from the Ning Help Center to continue this discussion.

In the mean time I've disabled the redirection tool which will allow you to use your social network from the .ning.com subdomain in the mean time.

Thanks!
Mike

Thanks, Mike.

Yeh, the .ning is working now, but I still do not know why www.grovetime.com is not working.
