I ask because of the Google ads column and not knowing if a default 800 x 600 pixel page layout will impact that column in a TOS violating way, otherwise I'd just scale it to that.
Senior citizens age 57 plus are my app's expected main audience, and I want to re-design it to be uniformly user-friendly with most text content's font size of 11pt minimum, and a default 800 X 600 screen layout with no-horizontal-scrolling, for an audience not likely experienced with the web nor computers much.
Thank you Mike. You mention several things I guess I need to get updated and definitely clear on if they have changed (or never have and I just didn't know).
1. "Repositioning them ... should be no problem". I actually custom-modded my page layout with css early in the game and THOUGHT I had removed the ads in error, but quickly found that they had only been "shifted" UNDER the left-most column on the page when I scrolled to the page's bottom. So if that's the best way for me to get my 800 X 600 layout (or any other)
styled right that is ok with Ning?
2. Also, Phil McCluskey's "Tracking Code Hacks" post specifically says and shows how to hide the about box, which has been hid in my main site for months. Is that now not allowed?
Thanks to you and any others on the Ning team for clarifying.

Hi G!
Even though Phil explained how, hiding the About box is actually not allowed under our Terms of Service, unless you purchase Ning's premium service "Remove Ning Promotional Links." Could you kindly un-obscure the box (and the ads if those are hidden)? You can do anything you'd like to the layout, so far as the ads an the About box are in their proper place — or, if you purchase the Promotional Links and Run Your Own Ads premium services, it's totally up to you.
Evan, thank you for the reply. The TC hiding the About box is removed now. The ads have never been hidden or re-positioned.
I've stated recurringly in my forum posts for help that I want to avoid doing something that unintentionally violates Terms Of Service. Originally not knowing who was officially on Ning's core development team but seeing a flood of Phil's authoritative helpful posts since joining in November, as well as noting when he declined to give coding helps that would violate TOS, like many I've faithfully adopted tips as given without any concerns. The assumption of ok-ness to use carte-blanche the five original tracking code hacks examples in that post came from nothing mentioned about needing premium services status.
I checked that Tracking Code Hacks post immediately before starting this discussion and the About Box hack was still there (as it is on that page saved to my hard drive Dec. 8th '07) but it's been understandably removed in the last few hours. Glad to have helped with clarifying that to keep all Ning members out of hot water.
Of course reading the TOS we agree to when joining is our responsibility, but we PHP-XML-and-Dojo newbs lean on trusting the bosses in the forums as we navigate through the Ning wonderland and try to get our networks clicking on all 8 cylinders as quickly as possible with forum help tips.
You did leave one thing not clear (to me) in your reply ... are you and Mike and other Ning officials in agreement that as Mike said "Repositioning them [ads] or making the right column slightly smaller should be no problem", or do your words "so far as the ads an the About box are in their proper place" mean (in Texanese) "['as long as'] the ads an[d] the About box are in their proper place" ... as in WITH NO CHANGES AND CERTAINLY NO REPOSITIONING?
Someone in total agreement with founders Marc A. and Gina B. please make that unambiguously clear so we can march on with confidence. Thanks.
Hi. I also would like to make the width of my layout 800 px. I don't care about the scrolling but I don't like the narrow horizontal layout. Please help me make these changes. Thanks.
