Merging ning member database with other SNS platforms

I am thinking about piloting a web site using ning and possibly using another social networking platform with more features down the road. Is it possible to transfer the members to another social networking platform? My guess is that this would require everyone to create new profiles and it would be a nightmare to move forum discussions, etc. Please let me know if I am right. Thank you.

I know that migrating from another platform to Ning has issues like this, so I would think there are similar issues going in the other direction.

Check out the 'export member data csv' on the Manage->Members tab. You can download profile and email data for your members. Not passwords though.
