Modify search results display?

We are a "content" heavy community. Lots of teachers use the search function to find material/ideas. however, many times, the search just pulls up a hundred lines of text. Is there any way to change what it pulls up to just show the Heading? Then if interested the user can select and read the text/content.

Anyone know of how to do this? Thanks in advance.

thanks and we are doing that. We have a number of "taggers" who religiously do this. However, lots of people instead of tags use the search box. So I'm trying to modify that for better display, if not results....
