Adding new members to a group automatically in the sign up

Can we assign people to a certain group on our network automatically when they sign up?

I would be interested in the answer too. I am even ok if I can choose members and assign them to groups (As network creator or Administrator).

Background: I have an alumni network. I want to be able to group members of my network into groups like passing year(2002, 2003, 2004..), Specialization area etc (Computers, Electronics)

Currently the member would have to voluntarily go join groups. This is very inefficient for completeness of a group.

Hey guys,

We already developed this kind of feature in the past to one of our clients.

This is not possible right now since networks are not allowed to access direct code anymore.

But if there are other ways possible and non-obtrusive that we can come up with, we'll keep you posted.

With a custom sign in page that send's off a rewrite code off to an off Ning Server you may be able to do it. I can code this but it wouldn't be for my Standard price of 10$ it would be around 150$ because I would have to host it then edit it and it is about 6 week's of work that I would have to do in 4 weeks. Yes Natalie, it did a lot of automation on their site. This was way before the pre OS era here on Ning (that was before Oct-Nov 08)

At that time there were no issues as we have tested this many times before going live.
