Accessing Source Code with SFTP

Note: Files that are over 2 megabytes can NOT be transferred via SFTP. This is due to a limit in the underlying library used to implement SFTP and can not be easily changed. If you need to transfer a relatively large file, you might want to look into using WebDav.

SFTP is the easiest way to access the source code for your social network.  Many IDEs and even some operating systems support SFTP already, but just in case here are instructions using a free SFTP client.  Please follow these steps:

  1. Download an SFTP client. There are many SFTP clients available for download, many of them for free:
  2. The instructions below apply to any client, but the screenshots will be from WinSCP.

  3. Connect to sftp.ning.com on port 22.  Use the email address or Ning ID of the Network Creator as your login and that account’s password as your password. You do not need to use your master key.

  4. If asked to accept any fingerprint, say yes.

  5. You can find the source code for each of your social networks in the folder that corresponds to their .ning.com domain name. For example the code for examplenetwork.ning.com can be found in /examplenetwork/.
