About OpenSocial

Profile Apps, formerly known as OpenSocial Applications, are based on the OpenSocial set of APIs. The OpenSocial initiative was spearheaded by Google in the fall of 2007, and has since been adopted by a wide range of social media companies. It enables third-party applications to access member data, process friend relationships and perform network actions (such as activity feed updates) normally accessible only to a service's core features.
