This document is designed to help developers get their OpenSocial applications up and running on the Ning platform as quickly and easily as possible.

How does Ning Implement OpenSocial?

Ning currently implements the OpenSocial series of APIs through Profile Apps and Ning Apps:

• Ning Apps are OpenSocial Applications that are served as a dedicated navigation tab of a Ning Network. They are based off of OpenSocial v0.8, and offer additional canvas views for developers to implement functionality to member profile pages and auxiliary pages. Ning Apps can only be installed by the Network Creator of a Ning Network. Ning Apps were launched in September, 2009.
  
  
• Profile Apps are OpenSocial Applications that are served through the profile page of a Ning Network, similar to OpenSocial implementations for other social network containers. Launched in October, 2008, they can be installed by all members of a Ning Network.
