Ning Developer Network

[Attention Ernie]
Hello Ernie H, so far I've been looking for helpful video tutorials on Ning for some html source code and CSS editing and more. You name comes up frequently and usually saying something simple like "There's a tutorial on XYZ here" but there isn't any left it seems. What's going on and where can I really get some help with my site? I'm a novice and my sites going to hell in a hand basket fast.

I need to do the following immediately.

#1 : verify google1ab4d12a647ccb39.html
right now this is what it says: Site URL http://dancetherapystudios.ning.com/
Verification status
NOT VERIFIED
Last attempt Jun 25, 2009: We've detected that your 404 (file not found) error page returns a status of 200 (Success) in the header.

I've tried placing the saved html file in http://dancetherapystudios.dav.ning.com/ "root folder", my Blog as an upload and nothing seems to work. Everyone simply seems to say just upload the darn file but no one says how EXACTLY and WHERE EXACTLY for Ning sites. You can spend hours reading these forums and get no where.

#2 I have many CSS issues and design tweaks I need to make. Not sure how I'm a member of "TheNingMaster.com" but can't seems to understand or get anything to work right on my site.

Like widening the sides or the whole site a bit so widgets can show correctly, right now on some pages my sidebars are wither way way down at the bottom or all on one side...don't know why or how to fix it.

#3 adding flash to Ning. either in the header or else where. I tried uploading a small box style flash to show in the middle section on the main page and no embed coding would work. The Program Flash 4D placed the files in 3 [index.html, beautyflash.swf, music.swf and lines.txt] all of which are needed to show. Then it say those famous unclear words "just upload it to the directory" [I uploaded it to DAV like this dancetherapystudios.dav.ning.com/video_folder/beautyflash/] So what seems to be the problem? It seems plays when you click on the index.html file from inside the folder. http://dancetherapystudios.dav.ning.com/video_folder/beautyflash/in...

I seem to be spending weeks trying all kinds of mess and decoding explanations to get things to work or look right....nothing....take a look for yourself! Also tried creating a "Sandbox" to help with testing things but can't seem to get it to clone the other site exactly? http://asandbox.ning.com/But I'm back to square one.

Any help would be appreciated...just ask one thing please... make it clear for novices!

Things have changed here at Ning over time. Before last October, we had complete access to our source files on the Ning server and could edit the underlying PHP code. Many of the posts here, and many of the tutorials, had to do with changing the source code. Since we no longer have access to the source code, many tutorials were removed and some of the older posts here are not helpful anymore.

As far as help here in this forum, Ernie is very helpful. There are also a few Ning developers and designers that help here occasionally but we are also busy on mods and apps that we may market, so that is a priority. I drop by here now and then to answer questions about javascript and jQuery. I also help on my jQueryHelp network.

Best wishes!

For #1 I have no idea what that is.

2) CSS issues... Ning seems to have a lock on adjusting the size of the modules but there is this tutorial which shows you how to make a single wide column on the home page:

http://blog.ning.com/2009/01/give-your-network-a-single-column-layo...

3) I put my flash codes in text boxes on my home page using the embed code. Haven't ever attempted putting it in the header. I have an animated gif for my header that I have linked through CSS from my photobucket account. Is it a flash image you want to use as your header? I'll be honest... aside from flash widgets I don't know much about it. If it is an image and it has a file location I could help you with CSS.
