Ning Developer Network

Is it only possible?
What are the differences - i don't see many from How to write an OpenSocial Gadget

Google Gadgets don't work on Ning textboxes. So, i have to find another way :((

Also, is there a chance that Creators can place a ning app straight onto the members' "My Page" instead of My App Page. This would not only save 1 click but be much more visible to visitors. Don't ask them to guess where to click....

Hi Charles,

Ning Apps are based off of OpenSocial, which itself is based off of Google Gadgets. While Google Gadgets don't work on Ning textboxes, they are XML files which you may be able to install by clicking on "Add Apps" and then "Add by URL" in your profile page. This may not work for all Google gadgets, however.

As for the second question, we initially had apps going straight to the "My Page," but this was changed to the "My App" Page after member feedback in regards to Profile Page performance.

Thanks,
- Ernie

Tx Ernie for the feedback.

I indeed tried to add a google gadget in a xml format but there was a conflict with your own google ads (part of the gadget was overlapped with your ads).

Re app placement: If some members complained about bad performances, it's only due coz they abused from your apps. Give at least the choice to creators to display their own app on My Page (installed by default and accessible to all members of a social network). Up to members to post further or thousands apps on My App Page.... and i will start building my own Ning app. I already installed your xml app-editor :)

Wow, that is way cool. We absolutely hate the Ning Event Calendar. Are you saying that if I can find a Google Gadget for the Google Calendar, that I can add that to my site and never have to use the Ning Calendar again? OMG. That would be amazing. I'm going to try it right now.
