Changing blog layout using css

Hi

Can someone please help me.
I'm trying to change the layout of the blog preview on my main page.
instead of having just a thumbnail on the left followed by a mass of text i want to have
thumbnails text thumbnails text (two columes) I have attached two example of the look i want
can someone help me
