Add as friend link is not visible

Hi,

In my network, when i go to view the profile of any of the member, on the members profile i did not find the "Add as friend" link which is supposed o be displayed under the members details in the left side block. Can any one tell me whether i am missing any stetting or is there any code for making the link display in the users profile page.
Please advise.
