A great feature would be the addition of a priv. level called moderator that would lack some of the sensitive data
like user list from their admin panel that is seen in creator/admin.
so, if there is a wish list .. please add theretowith.
Finally, pricing... I know a lot of work goes into the dev end of any opensrc ( or close to opensrc - like free to use ) program... yet, I need to ask are you loosing income by maintaining your pricing scheme? Look at volume if the prices were lower, of those who would want to pay for added bandwidth or removal of the NING link or Google Ads.
If I had an opensrc copy of Ning - I could host at hostmonster ( we have several sites (domains) hosted there
and run ning with no additional bandwidth charges nor webspace charges. I had Dolphin setup for a bit and all the features worked without flaw, including ffmpeg.exe without flaw after tweaking the php.ini file..
yet, ( the punch line ) they only charge 5.99 to 6.99 per month on a two year contract. Support is a phone
call or chat away, 24/7 .. not a note in the dev. area. (grin)
Finally, running Dolphin or aroundme_c_20080327 I can tweak or rewrite areas of the code I want to customize..
If I went along with your present price schema, I'd be paying, 4.99 for domain redirect, 24.99 to remove the ads, 24.99 to remove ning, and 9.99 for a bit more space and bandwidth (About 65.00 a month) more than
the price of some leased dedicated servers.
That's why I ask, is Ning loosing volume on the income side?
Just an old GEEK over 60 and having fun..
Here before Al Gore invented the Web.. Building mail tossers between FIDONet, GTPowerNet, RBBSNet and the
then message based web.. and finally domained in 1996. (Stupid me) We saw them BORN, we saw many die..
victims of greed.
Suppose you run several networks on Ning and you pay for premium services on 3 networks and one day you decide to change the URL you are using as your own domain name. You add that domain name as an additional premium service and delete the old domain name service and suddenly you find that even though you have everything set up at your registrar correctly and have waited 24 hours, your ning network still redirects to the old domain, no matter what. Then, you try to contact Ning for 3 solid days with absolutely NO RESPONSE!
Clearly you would feel that there is some kind of error going on with a service you are paying for and it should not be to much to expect a timely response. It's not like I need help learning how to set GoDaddy right as I have done this on other networks and can even compare what I am doing now with my other domain settings.
Well, I have been down for THREE DAYS STRAIGHT and it looks like the only way I can get any assistance is to start paying an additional $10 a month.
In my book, this is just not right, no matter how one tries to justify!
Ping and Traceroute are utilities that can be used to help troubleshoot network or Internet connections.
The ping utility tests responsiveness between two hosts (computers, routers, switches, etc.). The traceroute utility will also check responsiveness as well as trace the path a packet takes to get from one host to the other.
Some devices on a network will not respond to ping or traceroute requests. In this case using the traceroute utility can show the location right before the host that's not responding.
Also would check the IP (of the DNS Servers) you inserted at GoDaddy. They are not the fasted when it comes to DNS updates.. one reason I went to mydomains.com You could also do a stealth redirect to the *.ning.com name you chose.. if that doesn't work then you know the problem lies at GoDaddy.
I have no idea about Nings service concept for those who pay fee's .... we have been involved since MIT
in the early 70's and message based I.. then via BBS (Building mail tossers between FidoNet, GTPowerNet and the then message based internet) finally domaining in 1996 ( we saw them
come and grow or go ).. and on items we developed be it in C/C++ or web based, more oft than not those who had a problem failed to read the docs.. or other user error.
It's best to retrace your footsteps ( and cheaper it appears )..
I have no idea if service was promised with what you purchased, so I have to stop at this point.
Best and I hope you can resolve your issue without much more ado.
Goto start: run: type in command
in the win that pops up type in ping (domain) what ever..

On the free side... ( no rush ) checked all I can check for mail options including send an email when a new user joins.. nothing. Yes, checked spam. Nada..
I tried to point a domain at Ning and got a nasty pink ribbon that said fess up or shut up and sit down..
So until your problem is resolved I recommend you use a small php script / redirect.. the URL at ning will remain the
same as the freebies .. but at least a click on the domain name will take you there..
Point your domain to any free hosting site... then name a txt file index.php and place in your domains root dir with
this inserted.. and the only line needed. Dont forget to ad the < before the top ? and the > after the bottom ?
