How can I use images as tabs?

Seen a few ning sites that have replaced their text based tabs to images and rollovers. Can anyone advise on how to do this? I have a "I can hack code" skill level and a developer who is pretty good with this stuff.

hey i just wanted to say your code for the nav bar worked great thanks so much i been looking for a code like this thanks so much... eh got a question you can do this for the tabs right well i been having some problems with the module headers i tried the tutorial that ernie wrote but it never worked for me... would you happen to know of a way i can change the module headers make them pictures like the tabs i would really apreciate it thanks again for the wonderful code.

I cant get this to work?

The hover is what is broken. The hover image shows up as solid black.

Even if I delete the hover code it still does the same thing.

Is there something somewhere else that is making this happen?
