More Information on Changing Ning Gadgets to Ning Applications

Hey OpenSocial developers -- we're going to be moving from OpenSocial v0.5 to OpenSocial v0.7, and as a result will stop supporting Gadgets, but we will be supporting something called Ning OpenSocial Applications instead. This is a very good thing. You can read more about this here:

Hey!... You pass me the urls for the resorces, by that I can get started how to develop the Ning Applications, I know only the Open Social version 7 is available!.... But I dont know how to implement it for developing ...Please do it for me..

Hey!... on the Beta page (http://developer.ning.com/beta) it was mentioned that "OpenSocial on Ning is coming in September..." did you mean Sep 2009?

I am asking because I am working on project which it should be completed by July 2009. The project aims to link our Ning network to our University’s HIVE repository where members will be able to uplaod documents(through Ning interface ) to the repository and search documents by using criteria, such as subject.

Will I have to wait till Sep to use OpenSocial Application? or do you suggest other options?

Hi Hamza!

A couple of notes:
1) The Beta page at http://developer.ning.com/beta corresponds to Profile based OpenSocial Applications, which are already live. We do have a different private beta underway which is related to Network Wide OpenSocial Applications; these different from Profile Applications in that they are served from the main page of a social network and use the 0.8 standard. The September is referring to September, 2008.

2) Do you know where you found the link to beta? That way I can adjust the appropriate links.

I am developing an application in Asp.Net . I want to use my Ning social network into my Asp.Net application like user authentication, uploading photos i.e the features of my Ning Social network into my application.

Many thanks for your useful calrification.

My eventual application will be used only for our University, NOT seen by public ( because it will hold access to confidential data on our server)

So Ernie what do you suggest:

1 - create a Profile based OpenSocial Applications ( and because I am a network creator I can insert it under a new tab and all my community will be able to use it)?

OR

2- create a Network Wide OpenSocial Applications on the main page of my social network as you mentioned? But, will my OpenSocial application be seen and added to other ning networks?
