Help needed:First steps to create a widget.

I never used ning before so I´m absolute beginner.
I like to write a new widget. I will add this widget in my ning structure under the folder widget.
how can I use my nice looking widget?
where I have to put some code so that i can see it on an specific position??
What things are importend to do to create one.
I read the Hello World Widget but how can I use it? How can I see something from the widget?
