Ning Developer Network

Hello!

I'm pretty new to the whole Ning thing and am trying to make my Ning as user friendly for members as possible, so am testing everything out myself and hoping to provide some simple instructions.

One thing that's totally flooring me however is adding third party gadgets to my profile page. I've enabled Gadgets and have the box on my profile page. Adding gadgets from the Ning OpenSocial directory is not a problem, but try as I might, I cannot get a Google (or any other third party) gadget to work. Generally I'm just seeing a blank space.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I'm pretty sure it will be something simple I'm missing, so I apologise in advance for my foolishness!!

Thanks!

Anne

I am having the same problem. I am wondering if we have to encode these scripts somehow before placing them on the page. I haven't examined the Ning gadgets code versus the Google Gadgets code to see if this is the case.

That said, it stands to reason that guarding against cross-site scripting might be an interest of Ning's, so they might be filtering out script tags. Unfortunately, there's at least once post which leads me to believe you can just paste your gadget right in there. But it never works for me.

If anyone else has been successfully, it would be interesting to find out how you accomplished this.
