How to display (and change) a DOMDocument Object

Hi Good AfterNoon,

I wanted to know that since ning application uses a lot of DOMDocument Objects especially to decide the layout of the page.
I wanted to know how do you debug a DOMDocument Object.
Simple print_r(,true) does not display its content.
Or may be it always contains blank.
Can anyone help me on this. I am really struck at it. I need to know what is inside the DOMDocument Object to change the layout.

Also i would need to change such an object.. how can i change the DOMDocument Object. any advice?????
