Ning Developer Network

I am interested in having different types of members on my network. Is this possible to create with access to the source code? Anyone have any tips on the possibility of this functionality?

Thanks!

i'd also like to get in on this if you find out :)
i want to make a question tree ...
Hello Jason,

Assuming that these different kinds of members don't have different permissions to features, this is pretty easy. Just add an attribute to the User object found in the file /widgets/index/models/User.php. Once you've added that you can alter the controllers and templates for the places you'd like to expose this data and make it editable. The specific changes you need to make depend on the specific places you'd like to surface this new attribute.

Cheers!
Mike
What if these different kinds of members have distinct permissions?
For instance, some members is not able to create a new topic in the forum but some are..
OK i'm not sure where to start with the words - add attribute - to the - user object - but i'm sure i'll find something if i go looking around ... will there be a tutorial for this? I think there will be a lot of people wanting control over what different user types will see.

I just want to be able to restrict "spectators" from being able to do anything at all on my site - I just want "spectators" to fuel the interest and spread the word, but I don't want them to contact anyone.
Later i'd like to set different usability levels for at least 3 different types of user.

High levels can contact everyone and make additions to forums and groups - mid level can only contact mid people and reply to forums - and low level can just read content and not contact anyone in higher levels.

How complex is this to do ???
I need a membership type to have sub admins, and members
