We're sorry, but this discussion has just been closed to further replies.
mixx.com recently allowed its users to develop "communities". Communities are similar to the sub-domaining structure that ning.com uses.
one cant be sure, but i can't help but wonder where they got some inspiration... here is an e-mail i sent to mixx feedback.
I like the RSS out feature, but can we get a widget?
hi guys, im finally discovering more of the cool options and uses for mixx. i think you guys have a really neat site. i like the flexibility.
i kick articles i find on mixx into groups, then grab the RSS from the mixx groups and feed it into ning groups, like this
this allows really easy content feeding, but the RSS links bring users back to mixx.com. forcing ning groups users to make a "double-jump" to the source article.
on my mac, i can make a mixx dashboard widget right from safari. i would really like to be able to put that exact widget into my ning groups, with fully functional voting, and one-click-to-content-links. what do ya think?
thanks again,

Hey there ... I think the best thing for you would be to check out our new API at help.mixx.com and see what you can do . Please let us know if you have any questions. Thanks! Kori
So a while later they feature subdomaining, with a 50-50 split on google adsense revenue. This is an ingenious move on their part, and I upgrade most of my mixx groups to commuities.
But mixx communities are not the same as ning networks. I have spent a lot of time developing my ning stuff, and would like to continue developing them, regardless of how neat mixx communities are
As good fortune would have it, reddit.com went open source. Here is the reddit code
Now, with my skills I may or may not be able to install this code on my ning sites, but Ill bet somebody could. How neat would that be if we could just drag and drop this feature into our ning sites?
