Developer Upgrade and Tutorials Module

Hello Developers!

We've just merged the Ning Developer Network to the most recent version of the code. The change that you'll probably notice first is the updated forum, but I recommend you take a peek at the menu. We've added a new tutorials feature. It's pretty empty at the moment but we'll be moving the rest of the tutorials over in the coming days. It will not only make it much easier to find the tutorial that you need, but it will also give you an opportunity to rate them!

We love the feature.
I would like to create a competition in forum and I need rating of each topic. I also need the filtering method you used there.

Hey VG!

This is a great idea. The tutorials module itself is a bit heavy to create a tutorial from, but I've added a couple tutorials to our to do list: one for using the ratings helpers and another for adding arbitrary metadata to any feature.

Hi Mike,
I have an idea of creating an addition column which shows the current rate for each topic in forum and another column for showing the number of view for each category.Already there is dicussions,replies,latest activity.By adding the new two - I requested above- will make it so attractive and useful for many of the NCs because from many threads I understood that so many NCs needs these feature and they are also going to conduct competitions.So please consider this request seriously.

That's a fabulous idea and so much needed. However I believe there are some problems in the moved topics such as this Advanced Member Search tutorial, showing the Hello World instead!

Let me undestand this correctly... Ning IS developing the features of the Ning Developer network 'Tutorials' tab module for network creators? If so, will it include the capabilities of individual post icons, ratings, views, and filtering capabilities?

If Ning IS NOT developing the features of the Ning Developer network 'Tuturials' tab module for network creators, will the code for how to develop the 'tutorial' feature be available soon? I want to intergrate this into my Ning community site at .

Mike, this is great. Not just the content, but the idea of being able to add dropdowns to sort tutorials. Will this be a feature in the Ning social network soon for community owners? I am in the process of moving my eCoronado.com site over to Ning, but not being able to add categories (and sub categories) outside of 'forums' is a big limitation. You see, I need to be able to list all restaurants, but also sort them by cuisine, rating, etc. This gives me hope. Have you seen any sites that feature categories and sub-categories outside of the forums code? My site runs on advertisements from featured businesses. In Ning, I'm having a hard time being able to feature individual businesses (pages) and give every business their own page. Further, I want to be able to sort them by category: ex. restaurants (sorted by cuisines, ratings), hotels (sorted by price, ratings), churches, activities, etc.

Hello All!

Thanks for your feedback on the Tutorials module.

This feature is not planned for inclusion in the standard social network, but I will let the product team here know about your interest.

What we can do, though, is provide you the code for this feature. We're still working a few more kinks out of the Tutorials module, but once it's a bit more polished we'll post the code here on the Developer Network. This will, however, require that you request access to the source code of your social network to use this feature.
