Ning Developer Network

1. Can emails be sent to just those users who indicate somehow, a checkbox, that they want it, OR can the checkbox be marked somehow by an admin?

2. Is there a way to export all of the user accounts to some format that can be viewed offline or imported into a offline database?

Thanks for any help.

Hi Stanw,

Users have control over the messaging functions on a network, so they can elect to not receive emails; by default they are set to receive emails. If you wanted opt-in permission for something like that, you could always add a checkbox in the profile questions.

On the Manage > Members page, administrators can export the member account details, excluding someone's password, as a csv file.

Thanks,
Phil

1.) Is there a way for an admin to somehow create groups and select who receives and does not receive emails?

2.) Is there a way to change the way the forums are displayed to make them appear more like a traditional message board?

3.) How/where can I see examples of sites built on the Ning platform?

Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Stanw,

1) Not by default; you could request access to the code for a network and build this in PHP though.

2) We have some changes scheduled for the release after next that will overhaul the way the forums look and provide additional display options.

3) You can have a look at the popular networks on Ning, and you may want to join us on Network Creators.

Thanks,
Phil

Hi Phil,

Sorry to ask again..... but how do we get our websites to go on the .com?

We have purchased the domain name from Go Daddy, we have forwarded and masked properly, we have gone to register.com and followed the tutorials...waited the recommended 2-4 days..... and still no switch over.

www.nccunetworking.com still 'flips' over to the www.nccunetworking.ning.com.

What do you think is the issue is ?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions that you can provide.

Hi Robert,

Please follow up via the help center, but this behavior suggests that you're doing domain masking (placing the Ning network in a fraemset) rather than or in addition to setting up the DNS CNAME.

Thanks,
Phil
