PHP and Ning Authenication

I would like to create a mash up with a PHP site thats under construction with a Ning site. Ideally user authenication could be passed from the PHP site to Ning to avoid having a dual log on. Basically the user would log on to the PHP site and the Ning resources would be available to them. I am looking over the Ning APIs dealing with authenication.
