I love the ning platform and I think that ning does a great job but it is troubling how much spam members on my site receive from other ning sites. Countless "Come Join Me" emails. I've even been accused of selling my members email address.
Today, I got the note that ning will be emailing anyone with a ning ID. I pay extra to keep ning links off my site and DO NOT want ning emailing my members.
i'm not pleased with this unilaterally imposed email from Ning to our members. we paid our way out of co-branding with Ning for a reason. are these sort of unilateral communications with our members the direction Ning is headed in the weeks, months and years to come? Please reconsider.
I am also curious about what Ning's statement is on how frequently they plan on contacting members of our networks, especially paying networks. I do not want these communications for my network members either.
I just received a full page email from an irate member of my group who has accused me of selling the membership list to Spammers. During the investigation of the spam he was getting it was found that all of the spam was coming from NING. Messagwe like Come Join Me and You Gotta Join this Group by the dozens.
I was considering going to the Premium service so all NING connections are severed in hopes that this would solve this issue, However, I read here that is not the case. This is very concerning and is causing the dismantling of my group since all the members came to join my group to get out of the firing line of other groups' spam. It also explains why I am having such a hard time recruiting members and the comments they are making of not wanting to join a NING group because of the NING spam.
Since a large number of the members of my group are professional Social Mediaist and bloggers I am sure this incident will result in some very negative press for NING. I share in this discussion to request that all communications from other NING sites and NING be severed when the Premium Service is obtained.
