Ning Developer Network

If the viewer data isnt available,it is understood that the viewer doesnt have the app- as in the open social APIs for orkut.

But in ning,Iam getting the viewer data even if he doesnt have the app installed.
Even the opensocial.DataRequest.FilterType.HAS_APP isnt working ,I guess.I get the friends ids even thoudh they dont have the app.

Help needed urgently.

Hi Soujanya,

Thanks for letting us know about the HAS_APP method not working correctly; can you message me privately with the XML or JS file of the code where this has the issue? I'll go ahead and verify this and if so, bubble it up to our Engineering staff.

Thanks,
- Ernie

Hi,

Even I have the same problem!!!

My application needs to determine whether the viewer had installed my app or not. Since the VIEWER object is available even if the viewer have not installed the application and also opensocial.DataRequest.FilterType.HAS_APP is not working, is there any way by which my app can check whether the viewer had installed the app or not ?

Thanks for any Help.

Regards,
Suresh

Do we have a solution for this yet? How do we know if the viewer has not installed the app or not?

Hi everyone,

As an update: we still have an open bug where the our implementation of OpenSocial does not recognize HAS_APP. We've marked the issue as important to developers, and we appreciate everyone's continued patience.

Thanks,

Thanks Ernie.

One workaround I can think of is to store a preference value once the user has added the app and use it to detect if a user has an app or not.

Is there a better workaround?

Thanks,
Srikanth
