I'm sorry to report that we have a known issue with the beta Gadgets feature at the moment. Social networks that have access to their own source code which was requested prior to last night's release will experience an error when attempting to use Gadgets.
We're working on a patch that you will be able to apply, but if the use of Gadgets is urgent you may want to return to the standard source code.
Sorry about that! We call it a beta feature for a reason!
Thanks for the info, Mike. It's not at all urgent and I had already sent out a message to all our members letting them know that Gadgets were messed up.
The question I do have is: The only reason I requested access to our source is so I could put JavaScript src file refs (so we can use ThickBox popups) and type="application/rss+xml" tags (so people can easily subscribe to our video blogging and main corporate site) in the Header template. Otherwise, I have no need for access to the source at this point.
Is there an alternate way, without having access to the source, to inject JavaScript and RSS tags into the HEAD portion of the Header template?
Ning is awesome and that's the only thing, from a programmer's point of view, that I can see is missing.
There isn't a way to do this right now, but we have a change slated to allow people to add arbitrary content to the head in the same way that they can with the analytics tracking code system, and it sounds like that will accomplish this nicely.
Hi Mike,
We've been having the same problem and it's really causing a stir with us and our members. Members that do add gadgets see the error but I "think" that it also sometimes causes people to get redirected or even logged out without doing anything when they view a profile with a gadget on it.
Is there a patch yet that you spoke of that we can apply PDQ? Just a way to temporarily disable gadgets would be great. Of course unless there is a patch. Thanks.
Ted
