Ning Developer Network

A feature that would be useful on my network is a calendar. Would it be possible for me to incorporate this feature? Is it available and I've missed it? If not, is there a way I can bring one in from outside?
The idea of the calendar is for us to be able to have our regularly shceduled events (not just special events that we post on "events" page) shown on a literal calendar, on which we can go to specific events. One example is a weekly dinner we have. It would be amazing if we could click on the day of the dinner on a given week, and be able to have an organized agenda detailing who is bringing what dish, etc.
Any ideas how I can go about doing this? Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated!
thanks.

Hi Stephen,

There is always the Event functionality which is available as a standard feature of your social network. That said, if you're looking for something that looks a bit more like a Calendar, you can always try Google Calendar at http://calendar.google.com -- if I'm not mistaken, you should be able to make events public and then export the calendar in such a way that it can be brought in through an HTML module or through the page features.

Thanks,

thanks ernie!

I ended up using google calendar- pretty close to what i wanted.
Are you able to get the Google Calendar to read from the Events functionality in Ning? I use the Events functionality now so it would be cool if I could just have the Google calendar or something read from the RSS instead of having to reenter it all.

Please let me know if this is possible of if there is another way.

Thanks,
Jay

I am wondering the same thing but in addition, would like to know if there's two way syndication?

Is it possible to get the "Events" function on Ning to read from my Google calendar?
I love how people can comment and RSVP on the "Events" function on Ning but love the syndication abilities of my iCal and gCal.
Hi Claudia!

At this time you can only import events to your iCal or gCal (via .ics) one event at a time. There's currently a feature request open to our development team on multiple events on a network.

Thanks!

I would like to see more features regarding integration with gCal. A mass export of Ning events to gCal and vice versa (but with an opportunity to filter out unwanted events) would be nice. Also, a button on all Ning events that would punch that event straight into the authenticated user's gCal would be nice. I have some experience with punching events into gCal from our church website with an automated process. I might be able to put that together for Ning once I get a little bit of a handle on how to develop for Ning.
It is a bit tiresome in this day and age to have to be adding events over and over again so greater ical functionality would be brilliant and a real plus for Ning.
yes! I need this too. Also a calendar widget that can be embedded on external sites would be great too.

Bill & Jon-
I've found embedding google calendar as a widget to work best for these sorts of uses. It's not ideal of course because to actually add and edit events you have to follow the link to google, however, it seems the best fix for now.
I use google forms to facilitate sign ups for sport teams and other functions. I need to sign up people to work a weekly event free online slots games and would really like to embed a calendar that shows what days are available and allow the user to select that date to volunteer.Does anyone know how to do this?
Please make it so that gCal can read the RSS feed of our ning events and of only the featured events. Then I can get them on my calendar without having to do onsie-twosie importing.
