Terminology

Ning Network
Ning Networks are social networks hosted on the Ning Platform. Each network has a unique membership and each network is an OpenSocial container.
Ning Apps
OpenSocial applications that add new features to a Ning Network. Ning Apps are added by the Network Creator.
Profile Apps
OpenSocial applications that add new features to profile pages on a Ning Network. Profile Apps are added by members to their profile pages.
Ning App Directory
The directory where Network creators can add a Ning App to their Ning Network, accessible via the Manage page.
Profile App Directory
The directory where members of a Ning Network can add a Profile Application to their profile page. This was previously known as the Application Directory.
Profile View
When the Ning App or Profile App is displayed as a module on member’s profile page. Your application may be displayed next to other applications.
Canvas View
When the Ning App or Profile App is displayed by itself on a standalone page.
About View
When the Ning App or Profile App is displayed inside the directory. The application’s name, description, screenshot, and other information is displayed.
Activity stream
A feed that contains activities for the entire Ning Network or for one member.
Latest Activity Module
Displays the activity stream. If shown on the main page of a Ning Network, it displays the network’s activity stream. If shown on a profile page, it displays the member’s activity stream.
